Comedy comes in many forms, improv, sketch and stand-up. This workshop will help you do exactly that!

Comedy comes in many forms, improv, sketch and stand-up. Even though they are often separate, they can often inform each other and can be used together to strengthen your performance. This workshop will help you do exactly that by focusing on how to develop characters, build a story and identify the strongest ideas to develop further. The workshop begins with an introduction to the process of creating sketches through improv. Students will improvise scenes. After each scene, we’ll discusses how to turn the improvised material into a comedy sketch, focusing on how to heighten the comedy, develop the characters, build a story, and identify the strongest ideas to develop further.

The scene is then performed again as a more structured and prepared comedy sketch, incorporating the ideas from the discussion.

In the second half of the class, students improvise new scenes and work independently to transform them into sketches. The finished sketches are then performed for the class, followed by notes and feedback on how the material can be further developed into a fully formed sketch.
